Endowments office in Socotra postpones Holy Quran ceremony after Emirati infractions

عدن نيوز - Aden News:

The Endowments Department in the Yemeni island of Socotra announced on Saturday the suspension of the Holy Quran competition this year and the postponement of the closing ceremony because of irregularities and disagreements with an Emirati institution.

The document issued by the director of the Office of Endowments and Guidance in Socotra announced the suspension of the Holy Quran competition for this year 1440 AH.

The closing ceremony of the annual competition, which was scheduled for the 27th of Ramadan, was postponed due to the relocation of the ceremony to the home of the head of the Khalifa Foundation for Humanitarian Affairs in Socotra.

According to the document, the transfer of the headquarters of the ceremony to the home of the head of Khalifa Foundation, Abu Mubarak Al Mazrouei, contrary to the agreement that was held between him and the Office of Endowment in Socotra that the ceremony will be held at the President’s Mosque in the city of Haidibu, the capital of the Yemeni island, located in the Indian Ocean.

The officer of Awqaf and Guidance in Socotra accused the Khalifa Foundation officials of blocking the ceremony and blamed them for failing.

A Yemeni source familiar with the transfer said the transfer of the headquarters of the closing ceremony of the Holy Quran contest to the house of Mazroui, the representative of the United Arab Emirates in Socotra, came because of the ongoing dispute with the local authority, following the suspension of an Emirati ship a week ago in the port of Hulaf.
