The UAE continues its moves to undermine the legitimate government’s powers in the southern cities remaining under its rule, including the city of Saiyoun, north of Hadramout province.
More recently, unknown militias funded by the United Arab Emirates have carried out several attacks against sites where soldiers or military vehicles are stationed, killing and wounding dozens of them.
Although the UAE is in control of the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout, it fears that Saiyoun will remain out of control, especially with the existence of the first military zone – military units loyal to the legitimate authority – in the heart of the city.
The UAE militias in Saiyoun have launched a campaign to recruit hundreds of its residents, in an attempt to establish elite forces loyal to the UAE. However, the campaign did not find a great response among the citizens.
The leaders of the so-called Transitional Council had also attacked the forces of the first military zone, demanding that they should be driven out of the city, claiming that they are northern forces, while the first military zone is carrying out almost daily security campaigns to hunt down the militants and control the security inside the city.
