Transport Minister Saleh al-Jubwani announced that the ministry is reopening Al-Rayyan airport in Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout province in the east of the country, in mid-March, after being fully rehabilitated.
The airport was closed since the control of al Qaeda on the coast of Hadramout in 2015 amid demands from citizens to re-operate it and alleviate their suffering.
The airport remained out of service for years and still under the control of the forces loyal to the United Arab Emirates. It has since been used as secret prisons for the opponents of the occupation of the UAE.
According to «Saba» news agency, the minister said in a press conference that the ministry also seeks to develop the port of Mukalla to accommodate the movement of ships, towards and from the port.
He stressed that the transport sector will see a qualitative leap during the next phase through the implementation of development projects will be launched at the airports and ports of a number of provinces.
