The militia of the so-called “southern transitional council” backed by the UAE has received a powerful shock after remarks made by US Ambassador to Yemen Matthew Toler at a press conference held Thursday morning in the Yemeni capital Aden.
Toler said Washington was keen on Yemen’s unity and stability. Adding: Our meetings here are looking for ways to strengthen cooperation in various fields.
The US ambassador to Yemen stressed that his country continues to support the legitimate Yemeni government, adding “Our strategy is to work with the government to confront extremist groups”.
“We recognize the importance of Aden and are working with the government to rebuild institutions. Stressing that Washington does not support groups that seek to divide Yemen.
He stressed that Washington hopes to reopen its embassy in Sanaa as the capital of the country.
Toler arrived in the interim capital of Aden this morning for an official visit, the first of its kind since the coup.
